The PTM Professional Development Model
Overwhelming evidence attests that leaders make more effective decisions when they are alert, confident, and secure in their personhood. In addition to mentoring and coaching on management and leadership issues, executives need advice and support in the personal and ethical dimensions of their lives. The value-added aspect of the PTM Professional Development Model is its results-oriented emphasis. The model is comprised of four integrated components.
1. Assessment: The PTM Model begins with a comprehensive and personalized assessment of strengths, challenges, and needs of each executive and the unique nature of each leadership role.
2. Strategy: The president or vice president will receive an individually-tailored professional development program with concise and focused readings and intellectual exercises designed to improve decision-making, data analysis, priority-setting, and strategic thinking skills.
3. Management: A minimum of eight hours per month of consultation targeted at managing transitions and shaping change by assisting with fundraising, admissions, community relations, and strategic planning tasks, while serving as a sounding board for innovative ideas and for potential solutions to vexing personnel problems.
4. Renewal: The PTM Model provides wise counsel and mentoring that supports college and university executives and in the process results in a sense of personal renewal that enhances their job performance and their quality of life

The Role of an Executive Professional Trainer
•Just as personal trainers keep exercise regimens on task to strengthen muscles, experienced mentors keep personal development plans on task to strengthen decision-making, priority-setting, and strategic-thinking skills.
•Since presidential or vice presidential success is measured by strategic plans, enrollment mix, endowment growth, money raised, media attention, community relations, and budget surpluses, coaching from a thoughtful and experienced mentor can improve performance in these key areas of responsibility.
•The 7/24/365 demands on a president’s or vice president’s time and energy necessitate a structured program of renewal to remain alert, creative, and sound in judgment. Astute mentors design and monitor personalized plans for revitalization that enhance the quality of life and in the process increase leadership effectiveness.
